Vertical Boring Mills

Vertical boring mills are mainly used for turning, facing or boring large cylindrical workpieces and work much like a horizontal lathe stood on one end. Two vertical uprights are mounted to the back of the diameter of the table, which bolsters a cross rail. The cross rail can be maneuvered up and down on the support columns in order to accommodate various workpieces.

Large Part Vertical Boring Services

Withers Tool, Die and Manufacturing Company is well known for our ability to handle and machine large parts. In fact, we are the only machine shop in the Southeast that has a vertical boring mill (or vertical turning lathe) of this size, so our capacity is unparalleled here for large part machining.

The vertical boring mill at Withers Tool, Die and Manufacturing has a 96″ diameter table and clearance under the rail of 90″. Parts up to 105″ can be turned on this machine. It is also equipped with a tool touch off probe for calibrating tooling on the machine and a Reneshaw probe for measuring parts on the machine.

Professionalism at it's Best

Great experience. Withers goes above and beyond to ensure they exceed your expectations.

Withers understood the importance of my position with a press down and meeting customer's expectations. Withers had no warning as to the scope of the work. They worked late and came in very early to ensure that I had the equipment back in 24 hours. There is no other shop in Atlanta with the resources that would make a commitment as what Withers did.
